Words 03:28
Verse 1: Words are a threat And a friend And an end To our conversations Recreation Consolation But you can’t seem to Stay away from the trivial And you are oblivious To the obvious Us Pre-Chorus 1: Who am I and who are you? What am I to you? Who are you and who am I? What are we tonight? Chorus: Don’t talk to me about her Talk to me about you Talk to me about us Talk to me about me This ain’t about the rest of the world It’s about the rest of our lives And don’t talk to me about them I don’t care what they do Talk to me about me Talk to me about you This ain’t about the rest of the world It’s about the rest of our lives Verse 2: Words, and again Your greatest strength But even then The ones that you choose Just confuse And make me lose And you look on through Like the world’s a sheet of glass And you are oblivious To the obvious Facts Pre-Chorus 2: So who are we trying to be? What are you to me? Who are you and who am I? What are we tonight? Chorus: Don’t talk to me about her Talk to me about you Talk to me about us Talk to me about me This ain’t about the rest of the world It’s about the rest of our lives And don’t talk to me about them I don’t care what they do Talk to me about me Talk to me about you This ain’t about the rest of the world It’s about the rest of our lives Pre-Chorus 3: So who am I and who Who am I and who are Who am I and who are you? Bridge: And all your empty questions Show no attention to Any morsel of your comprehension You gave not a single mention Of your apprehension So let’s stop all the pretention Tonight I’m sick of the derisions The left and right collisions And the reason, I will reason Is your indecision I will kindly ask your answer On some kind of decision On which side of the division Am I? Outro: Words are a threat And a friend And an end

On the Fence 04:21
Verse 1: Wouldn’t it be easier To say what’s on your mind? If you think that you will hurt me, I’ll be fine No matter what the consequences are, I’d rather know I’d rather know Pre-chorus: But while you gather up your courage, I’ll be sitting all alone Chorus: You’re sitting on the fence And now you’ve fenced me in With the no’s that you won’t say And the yes’s you don’t mean But I won’t say a word No, I won’t take offense We’ll pretend to be friends Right up to the bitter end And I won’t keep you Locked inside my fence Verse 2: Wouldn’t it be easier If we all spoke the truth Every minute of every day, every time? No more guessing or pretending Scared that things that are may change I’d be injured than be blind anyway Pre-Chorus: But while you gather up your courage I’ll be sitting all alone Trying to figure out the insides of That pretty little head of yours I’m tired of analyzing sycophantic, Euphemistic words They’re all just words Chorus: You’re sitting on the fence And now you’ve fenced me in With the no’s that you won’t say And the yes’s you don’t mean But I won’t say a word No, I won’t take offense We’ll pretend to be friends Right up to the bitter end And I won’t keep you Locked inside my fence Outro: Wouldn’t it be easier To say what’s on your mind? If you think that you will hurt me, I’ll be fine You’re so afraid to lose me, Well, don’t you be afraid We’re not worth keeping anyway

Maybe Be 03:55
Verse 1: I didn’t know that I could know Until I knew you I don’t speak your words, but I could See right through you And your eyes are most unlike Any I’ve known But I’ve known them Somewhere before Pre-Chorus 1: You’re in another world With the heart of another girl In a land I’d like to call my own But it very well may be That it all looked so pretty Because pretty is what’s unknown But maybe Chorus: In another time In another place In another life What could be, maybe would be And maybe In another day In another universe Another us could just Be Verse 2: I didn’t know what I could know Until I knew you All the words I say Find their way Right to you And your eyes are most unlike Any I’ve known But I swore I’d seen them before Pre-Chorus 2: Wouldn’t it be nice To be able to live twice Make the could-have-been’s as they should be But it very well may be Knowing you and me We both fall for life too easily But maybe Chorus: In another time In another place In another life What could be, maybe would be And maybe In another day In another universe Another us could just Be Bridge: But it’s too soon to say I miss you in this way It’s too soon to say, it’s true But it’s too late to say Because you’re so far away It’s too late to say I do Outro: I didn’t know that I could know Until I knew you

Time 04:51
Verse 1: I’m stuck And I can’t break walls And I see you moving by On the other side And I understand You’ve got a lot to do You’ve got the world to move Turn the earth Turn the nights into days we can use I’m stuck And you flow on by I’m tired of waiting And waiting and waiting for People and life And I just Need to sleep Need to breathe, let me be But you keep running on Without me Chorus: Don’t. Don’t go I haven’t seen All that there is to see Don’t go. Don’t go I haven’t been All that there is to be Verse 2: Give me A bit more of you I can’t keep waiting for you To wait for me And I don’t Want to miss this train Though I know there are so many more On the way Give me A chance to try ‘Cause I’m tired of regretting Forgetting and getting so Far behind Friend Be a friend Be a moment To lie and rest Chorus: Don’t. Don’t go I haven’t seen All that there is to see Don’t go. Don’t go I haven’t been All that there is to be Don’t go. Don’t go What in the world are you Running for? Don’t go. Don’t go I don’t think I can keep up anymore I don’t think I can keep up anymore

Verse 1: Walking down the road, I met a pretty little dragon He said, "Hello, goodbye!" But not before I Could wipe my tears On the back of my hand And he said, "I don’t understand. "You used to be Such a happy-go-lucky child You always used to laugh. Always, even after The sun went away with the rain. So, what’s making you cry today?” And I said, Chorus 1: "What’s the use of singing With all this noise around? And what’s the use of living With nothing left to give? And what’s the use of dreaming When nothing you ever dream comes true? What’s the use of singing When nobody can hear you?" Verse 2: He cocked his head and said As he handed me a napkin, "Now, wipe away those tears. It’s time that you cleared up This mess you call your head. Just look at all the tears you’ve shed! "I know what it’s like To feel like you don’t really matter You’re screaming out your words But none of them get heard. You’re a mime, in a box Underground, with your thoughts All silenced and turned on mute. And you think: Chorus 1: " ’What’s the use of singing With all this noise around? And what’s the use of living With nothing left to give? And what’s the use of dreaming When nothing you ever dream comes true? What’s the use of singing When nobody can hear you?’ Bridge: "But you know, this isn’t so, Sometimes you just gotta let your notes flow And live for yourself Dream for yourself Sing for nobody else but you. Chorus 2: "’Cause nothing’s gonna take you And nothing’s gonna make you Drown, drown, drown Least of all yourself "And nothing’s gonna shake you And nothing’s gonna break you Down, down, down "You ask me what’s the point, Well, this is all I can say: If you’re feeling like you’re muted You just sing it anyway Sitting high and mighty on the shelf Learn to love to sing for yourself.”

about

"Words" is my first album of original songs. Although we've caught a version of them in these recordings, each is a story still in the making. What a privilege to be able to take all that we experience, distill them into phrases, add a little rhythm; polish them up with a twist of melody, a few layers of notes - and share these four-minute windows into each other's worlds.

As the album title might suggest, the words included in these tracks show important tidbits of my everyday life and music. As you listen, I hope that they will mean something to you too. Thank you for being here to take a listen! Maybe that will become a story of its own one day.

Special thanks to Rob, Alex, Kitty, and Lee Ann for playing music with me and making this possible! Another shout-out to Ian for the beautiful photos. And finally, a big, big thank you to family, friends, mentors, writers, and you all for giving me words that I am now getting to use.
